IOE Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships 2023/2024

Applications for 2023/2024 session of IOE Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships are now open. The scholarships came into existence as a result of the partnership between the Institution of Education (IOE) and the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) which partnership is aimed at offering up to five awards for online programmes at IOE, University College London’s Faculty of Education and Society for the academic year 2023/2024.

IOE Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships are available for candidates from eligible Commonwealth countries for online part-time Master’s study on selected courses offered by the Institution of Education, University College, London.

Eligible Countries

Students who are domiciled in an eligible Commonwealth country can apply. The eligible Commonwealth countries for 2023/2024 awards include: Bangladesh, Belize, Botswana, Cameroon, Dominica, Eswatini, Fiji, Gabon, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, India, Jamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Malawi, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Montserrat, Mozambique, Namibia, Nauru, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Rwanda, Saint Helena, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, The Gambia, Togo, Tonga, Tuvalu, Uganda, Vanuatu Zambia.

Five IOE Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships are to be awarded to students for 2023/2024 session.

Scholarship Benefits

The IOE Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships cover only tuition fees, no stipend. The tuition fees are not paid directly to students. It is not a cash award.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the IOE Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships, you must:

  • Be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person.
  • Be permanently resident in a developing Commonwealth country.
  • Hold at least upper second class (2:1) standard in your first degree. Though a lower qualification and sufficient relevant experience may be considered in certain cases.
  • Prove that you cannot be able to afford to study the programme without this scholarship.
  • Have an offer to study an eligible Master’s degree at IOE.

Other things you need to know about IOE Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships

  • Only candidates who are permanently domiciled in an eligible country can apply for these scholarships.
  • The scholarships are only offered for online part-time study.
  • The scholarships are only available for students who wish to start their studies in October 2023.
  • You can apply for these scholarships if you have received an official conditional offer letter issued by UCL admissions.
  • The IOE Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships are only available for students who wish to study one of the eligible Master’s degrees at IOE, UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society. If you wish to study in another UCL department, please check the UCL Scholarships website.
  • The IOE Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships are only available for students who wish to study one of the eligible Master’s programmes at IOE, UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society. If you have received an offer to study in another university, please contact that university directly.
  • Application fee applies.
  • Once you receive your offer letter from UCL, you should complete and submit the online application form via the CSC portal.
  • Selection Panel for the IOE Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships will be formed by a group of IOE academics.
  • The selection criteria for these awards include:
    • Academic merit of the candidate.
    • Potential impact of the work on the development in the candidate’s home country
  • Candidates will be informed the results in July 2023.
  • The IOE Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships are not a cash award. Candidates will not receive any funds paid directly to them.
  • You will not be able to accept any other UCL awards if you have been awarded the IOE Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships.
